Manchester City and Manchester United are tracking Matthew Young as a potential signing for their academies, with scouts regularly watching the Sunderland prospect.
According to iNews, Matthew Young has emerged as a target for Manchester City and Manchester United. The two giants are regularly tracking the Sunderland star’s progress. Scouts from both clubs have watched the 16-year-old English goalkeeping sensation with a view to signing him.
Sunderland continue to produce massive talents as they stick with their policy of developing players good enough for top teams. One of their speciality is the goalkeeping positions, with the team producing stars like Jordan Pickford in the past.
There has been rapid interest in at least three of their promising goalkeepers, with Chelsea already signing one of them. The Blues have beaten Manchester City for Toby Bell, but the Cityzens have not given up in their quest to bring a young keeper to their youth squad.
They are reportedly interested in Matthew Young, with the 16-year-old English goalkeeping sensation rising in reputation. Manchester City also have observers watching him constantly, and so far, the reports have seemed optimistic.
Young is not the only player Manchester City are looking at, as the academy project has targets everywhere around the UK and other parts of the world. In pursuing the 16-year-old sensation, they will face competition from Manchester United.
The Red Devils are also interested in Chris Rigg, another of Sunderland’s prodigies. It shows how the Championship side fights to keep their three promising stoppers at the club. They have reportedly made a plan for them to play in the first team in the immediate future.
Yet, if they are to receive a decent offer from some of the top clubs, they might sell and gain from it financially. Manchester City and Manchester United have enough resources to make it happen. They must also fight hard to convince the youngster.
Young signed a two-year scholarship deal. If he feels Sunderland could offer him a path into first-team football, a professional agreement is not yet out of the question. The interest from the Manchester Clubs and possibly other top-flight teams may turn the 16-year-old’s head.
