Gabriel Bourque, a seasoned winger, has made the decision to end his career. The 34-year-old announced his retirement from professional baseball after 13 seasons to Kevin Beaule of Ciel 103. In 2009, Nashville selected Bourque in the fifth round of the draft. Before moving to Colorado for three more years and Winnipeg for one, he played with the Predators for portions of six seasons. He didn’t play in 2020–21, but he made the decision to go on nevertheless. He played with AHL Laval, Montreal’s affiliate, for the past three seasons, although his output in 2023–24 was only 11 points in 43 games.
Between the Predators, Avalanche, and Jets, Bourque totalled 413 NHL appearances before his playing days ended. In those games, he scored 40 goals, 63 assists, and 736 hits in just over 12 minutes each night. With 44 NHL games played since the 2009 draft class, he is now ranked 44th, which is not bad for a fifth-round pick. In the meantime, Bourque produced more in the minor leagues. He played in the AHL for portions of nine years, recording 364 games with 65 goals and 104 assists. But he’s not going away from hockey completely; he’s been hired as College Lionel-Groulx’s assistant coach.
