Veteran long snapper Scott Daly, who was recently released by the Detroit Lions as part of their final roster cuts ahead of the NFL’s 53-man deadline, has quickly found a new home with the Chicago Bears. Daly, who served as the Lions’ regular long snapper for the past three seasons, wasted no time in signing with his new team, joining the Bears’ practice squad.

The 30-year-old Daly, a Chicago-area native, now has an opportunity to contribute to his hometown team. The Bears found themselves in need of a reliable long snapper after losing Patrick Scales to injured reserve. Scales, who had been a consistent presence for the Bears in the long-snapping role, suffered an injury that will sideline him, creating an immediate vacancy on the roster.

Daly’s release from Detroit came after he lost the camp competition to undrafted rookie Hogan Hatten, who impressed the Lions’ coaching staff enough to earn the spot over the veteran. However, Daly’s experience and familiarity with the NFC North make him a valuable addition to the Bears, especially as they seek to maintain consistency in their special teams unit.

Given the Bears’ situation, Daly is expected to be elevated from the practice squad to the active roster in time for Week 1 of the regular season. His signing not only provides the Bears with a seasoned long snapper but also adds a layer of depth to their special teams as they navigate the early part of the season with Scales sidelined. For Daly, the move represents a homecoming and a chance to continue his NFL career in front of a hometown crowd.
