The Green Bay Packers have suspended wide receiver Romeo Doubs for one game, escalating an already messy situation. According to Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber, Doubs has not practiced since Wednesday due to frustration over his role in the passing game, refusing to participate. This led to the Packers taking disciplinary action, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The team suspended Doubs for “conduct detrimental to the team,” meaning he will miss Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams and has not traveled with the team.
This suspension is significant, as it supports Huber’s earlier report that Doubs had skipped practice without informing the team. The situation has raised questions about Doubs’ future with the Packers and how he can regain the trust of both his teammates and coaching staff. Huber mentioned that Doubs did not provide any explanation for his absence, leaving the Packers concerned for his well-being. Representatives from the team reportedly went to Doubs’ home after he failed to show up to practice.
This marks the second time in less than a year that the Packers have suspended one of their players. Last December, cornerback Jaire Alexander received a one-game suspension after nearly causing a coin-toss debacle during a game against the Carolina Panthers. In Doubs’ case, the team had little choice but to enforce the suspension to set a standard. Allowing a player to skip practice out of dissatisfaction and then letting them play as if nothing happened would have undermined the team’s authority and cohesion.
The Packers hope that this issue can be resolved, and Doubs will return to the team in Week 6 with a fresh perspective. However, there is concern that this problem could grow beyond just this week’s game, especially since Doubs has been a significant contributor. He has logged the most snaps among Packers receivers this season and was a key target for the team last year.
For now, the Packers will have to move forward without Doubs, aiming for a victory against the Rams despite the setback. The situation remains fluid, with the hope that both sides can resolve the issue and Doubs can return to the team in a more positive manner.
