The Seattle Seahawks have signed rookie linebacker to their practice squad to bolster their linebacker depth. Richardson, an undrafted rookie from Washington State, originally joined the Seahawks in May as a tryout player during rookie minicamp. Although he was waived in August, the team brought him back on Thursday to add to their inside linebacker options.
Richardson, who transferred to Washington State after playing at Texas, had a productive final season, recording 62 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble in 12 games. His addition comes at a crucial time, with Seahawks starting linebackers Jerome Baker (hamstring) and Tyrel Dodson (ankle/shoulder) both listed on the injury report.
Baker has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury, forcing rookie Tyrice Knight into the starting lineup.
To make room for Richardson, the Seahawks terminated the practice squad contract of outside linebacker Tyus Bowser. Bowser, an experienced eighth-year veteran, had been signed to the Seahawks’ practice squad earlier in the season to provide outside linebacker depth. He was elevated to the active roster in the last two games, playing a total of 38 defensive snaps and seven special teams snaps. Bowser also started in Monday’s game against Detroit, playing 49% of the team’s defensive snaps.
Richardson’s return to the Seahawks gives the team added depth at the inside linebacker position as they navigate injuries to key players, while Bowser is now free to sign with another team.
