AC Milan are allegedly interested in signing Manchester City defender Sergio Gomez in January.
After excellent seasons with Huesca and Anderlecht in La Liga and the Belgian top flight, the left-sided player made the unexpected move to the Etihad Stadium at the start of 2022-23.
However, Gomez has yet to establish himself as a major member of Pep Guardiola’s team, with only two of his 14 Premier League matches coming from the starting eleven.
In total, the Spaniard has made 12 starts and 15 substitute appearances across all competitions, contributing two assists.
While Gomez has a contract with City until 2026, there have been reports that his spot in the squad could be jeopardized if Guardiola signs a similar player.
As recently as last week, it was reported that Guardiola is keeping an eye on the future of Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen, who has less than a year left on his contract.
Acquiring Maatsen on a free transfer and earning a significant fee for Gomez would, in principle, appeal to City, and it appears that they may be granted the opportunity to accomplish at least one part of that scenario.
According to Calciomercato, Gomez is on Milan’s radar ahead of the forthcoming transfer windows.
According to the report, the Italian giants are interested in negotiating a trade because of Gomez’s age and adaptability.
While Gomez has spent the majority of his career at left defense or deeper down the left edge, he can also play center midfield.
A fee of €18 million (£15.67 million) has been proposed for a player who cost City over £11 million when he signed 14 months ago.
Milan manager Stefano Pioli already has two good alternatives down the left side of the pitch, with Theo Hernandez at left-back and Rafael Leao in the final third.
Nonetheless, there are few recognized backup possibilities, and Gomez has the potential to serve as the deputy for each of those posts in the future.
