Breaking: Florida Panthers Officially Waive Another Top Experienced Superstar Due To Contract Dispute

The Florida Panthers have placed defenseman on waivers, as reported by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Kiersted, 26, had a productive 2023-24 season, registering four goals, 15 points, and 53 penalty minutes in 57 regular-season games. Despite these contributions, he did not see any NHL action last season and could potentially spend the entire upcoming campaign in the minors.

Kiersted’s future with the Panthers remains uncertain. His placement on waivers indicates that the team is likely aiming to assign him to their AHL affiliate if he clears the waiver process. Although he has shown promise, particularly with his offensive production and physical presence in the minor leagues, his chances of cracking the Panthers’ NHL roster this season appear limited.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Panthers in 2021 after a solid collegiate career with the University of North Dakota, Kiersted has since spent most of his professional career in the minors. His skill set as a defenseman, particularly his ability to contribute on both ends of the ice, has earned him attention, but he has yet to establish himself as a regular NHL player.

With Florida’s depth on defense and younger prospects competing for spots, it appears likely that Kiersted will need to continue developing in the AHL. However, his performance in the minors could determine whether he eventually earns a call-up later in the season. For now, Kiersted’s focus will be on continuing to refine his game and awaiting further opportunities at the NHL level.
