Texas’s Austin Quinn Ewers, the starting quarterback for No. 1 Texas, is expected to make a comeback this week against rival No. 18 Oklahoma, according to Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian on Monday. He also mentioned that Quinn’s recuperation from an abdominal injury will be closely watched throughout the week. Regarding Ewers’ position as the starter, Sarkisian responded, “If we had to play today, sure,” pointing out that he had practiced early on Monday and previous week. “He seemed well-groomed,” Sarkisian remarked. “He going on Saturday makes me feel good, but we’ll see.”
Texas had a week off last week. Sarkisian remarked, “If anyone benefited from the time off, it was probably him.”Ewers left a game against UTSA in the first half due to a strained abdomen, and he missed the next two. Starting in his place, Arch Manning guided Texas (5-0, 1-0 SEC) to victories over Mississippi State and Louisiana-Monroe. This week, Texas rose back to the top after falling to No. 2 after defeating Mississippi State.
Ewers has completed 8 touchdown passes for 691 yards. In the season’s second game, he led Texas to a convincing victory over Michigan, which made him a front-runner for the Heisman Trophy. Nine touchdowns and 901 yards have been passed by Manning. Ewers is expected to play against Oklahoma (4-1, 1-1), much like he did in 2022 when he suffered a clavicle injury and missed three games before coming back to lead Texas to a 49-0 triumph over the Sooners.”If necessary, I have no qualms about Arch entering the game,” Sarkisian declared.
