Done Deal: Just In DeMeco Ryans Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Experienced QB To Active Roster

Backup quarterback Davis Mills has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Houston Texans, keeping him with the team through the 2025 season, according to multiple reports. The deal also includes incentives tied to playing time, as reported by NFL Network. Mills will continue to serve as a backup to C.J. Stroud, who was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year last season.

Mills was drafted by the Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft and became the starter during his rookie year due to Deshaun Watson’s legal troubles. He also started in 2022 following Watson’s trade to the Cleveland Browns. Over two seasons, Mills started 26 games, winning five of them.

After Stroud was drafted second overall in 2023 and named the starter, Mills appeared in six games. In his career, the 25-year-old has played in 34 games, completing 62.8% of his passes for 5,955 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions. He led the NFL with 15 interceptions in 2022.
