Good News: Just In Another Top Talented 4-Star Officially Commits To Miami Hurricanes

Miami basketball’s 2025 recruiting class has entered the top 20 after securing a commitment from 7’0″ center  on Thursday. This addition moves the Hurricanes’ class to 18th in the 2025 rankings. Ahmed, who plays at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut, is the 78th-ranked player nationally and the ninth-ranked center. He is also the second-highest-rated player from Connecticut. Miami’s 2025 class now includes two recruits, with shooting guard Matthew Able being the first to commit before Ahmed.

Ahmed selected Miami over offers from Cincinnati and Xavier. His commitment came after an official visit to Miami the previous weekend. The Hurricanes extended a scholarship offer to Ahmed in August. Originally part of the 2026 recruiting class, Ahmed reclassified to 2025. Standing at 7 feet tall, with a 7’3″ wingspan and weighing 303 pounds, Ahmed brings a significant physical presence to the Miami frontcourt.

One area of concern, according to Adam Finkelstein, Director of Scouting for 247Sports, is Ahmed’s limited mobility and lack of verticality near the rim. Finkelstein notes that Ahmed would be more effective in a system that operates at a slower pace, contrasting with Miami’s traditionally faster style of play in recent seasons. However, Finkelstein praises Ahmed’s exceptional rebounding ability, frequently recording double-doubles. Miami, which struggled with rebounding last season, finishing last in the ACC in defensive rebounds, has prioritized adding size to its roster this offseason.

For the upcoming 2024-25 season, Miami’s frontcourt will feature transfers Lynn Kidd, Kiree Huie, and Brandon Johnson, all of whom are seniors. This makes Ahmed a crucial piece for the team’s future as he can be developed into a key post presence. Miami is likely to remain active in the transfer portal in the spring of 2025, as seven players from the current roster will be exhausting their eligibility after this season. The frontcourt, in particular, will be an area of focus, especially with the departures of Huie, Johnson, Kidd, and small forward Matthew Cleveland.

Ahmed’s commitment represents a significant step forward for Miami as they continue to build a stronger, more competitive team for the future.
