Eric Staal officially announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday. To mark the occasion, Staal signed a ceremonial contract, allowing him to retire as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes, the team where he spent much of his illustrious career. Additionally, the Hurricanes have planned to retire his No. 12 jersey during the 2024-25 season in recognition of his contributions to the franchise.

Staal’s NHL career was both long and successful, spanning 1,365 regular-season games in which he tallied an impressive 455 goals and 1,063 points. He played for several teams during his career, including the Hurricanes, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, and Florida Panthers. Throughout his career, Staal consistently demonstrated his skill and leadership on the ice, earning respect from teammates and opponents alike.

 

In addition to his regular-season success, Staal was a key player in the postseason, appearing in 104 playoff games and recording 25 goals and 64 points.
