Latest NFL News: Just In Houston Texans Officially Announced The Departure Of Another Top Experienced Fans Most Loved Superstar

The Minnesota Vikings acquired running back Cam Akers from the Houston Texans in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2026. Along with Akers, the Texans are sending a conditional seventh-round pick to Minnesota, also for the 2026 draft. The deal is contingent on Akers passing a physical.

Akers, who has rushed for 147 yards on 40 carries in five games this season, was seen as expendable by Houston following the return of Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce from injuries. In Week 3, Akers played against the Vikings during a 34-7 loss, rushing nine times for 21 yards and catching an 8-yard touchdown pass for Houston.

Akers is no stranger to the Vikings, having spent part of the 2023 season with them before a torn left Achilles ended his campaign after six games. During his brief stint with Minnesota, he rushed for 138 yards and scored one touchdown before suffering the injury in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Prior to joining Houston as a free agent in the offseason, Akers played for the Los Angeles Rams from 2020 to 2023. Over the course of his career, Akers has rushed for 1,728 yards and 12 touchdowns and has also caught 42 passes for 336 yards and two receiving touchdowns in 41 games, 17 of which he started. Notably, he also tore his right Achilles with the Rams before the 2021 season.

Minnesota’s acquisition of Akers comes as the team’s top running back, Aaron Jones, is dealing with a hip injury sustained during the Vikings’ 23-17 win over the New York Jets on October 6. With Jones considered week-to-week and the Vikings coming off a bye, Akers may be relied upon to provide additional depth at the running back position.
