Outfielder Nick Castellanos of the Philadelphia Phillies is another athlete that has an uneasy connection with super agent Scott Boras. According to his wife Jess, Castellanos has actually cut all relations with Boras. Castellanos, who won’t be able to sign a contract until 2027, seems to be representing himself for the time being. The reason for Castellanos’ choice is unclear.

Castellanos’ firing of Boras comes on the heels of an offseason that was widely panned for Boras’ botched agreements. Four of the Boras marque free agents, Jordan Montgomery, Blake Snell, Matt Chapman and Cody Bellinger, were expected to land multi-year, nine-figure deals, but each stayed unemployed until later in the offseason or deep into spring training and eventually signed shorter-term contracts, often with opt outs.
Montgomery was undoubtedly the most outspoken of Boras’s unhappy customers. As reported by ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel, he fired him in favour of Wasserman’s Joel Wolfe and Nick Chanock. He said that Boras pressured him into accepting a $47.5 million, two-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks that included a vesting option. In August, Snell said to The Athletic, “I’ve seen how (Montgomery) struggled, but he signed the deal that he ultimately wanted to sign.” “He has an option. I am aware of all the offers made to me, but I am unaware of any other deals that were made to him. I find it terrible that he holds such views on Scott, as I consider him to be a really honourable man.
