Sad News: Just In Tennessee Titans Officially Cut Another Top Veteran After Turning Down New Contract Offer

The Tennessee Titans have released three-time Pro Bowl safety on his 29th birthday. Adams, an eight-year NFL veteran, had been placed on the reserve/non-football injury list the previous weekend due to a hip injury. He had played in just three games for the Titans this season, starting one and making only one tackle in the team’s sole win against Miami on September 30.

Adams, a former first-round draft pick in 2017 by the New York Jets, joined the Titans in July on a one-year deal. He was familiar with the Titans’ defensive coaching staff, including coordinator Dennard Wilson, safeties coach Steve Jackson, and linebackers coach Frank Bush, all of whom had worked with him during his time with the Jets. Despite this, Adams was unable to make a lasting impact in Tennessee, where the defense has seen significant changes this season, including seven new starters in last week’s loss to Indianapolis.

Coach Brian Callahan, who has yet to speak publicly about the release, deferred questions to Wilson. Wilson expressed good wishes for Adams, saying, “It just didn’t work out. Going forward, he’ll have success wherever he goes.”

Adams started every game during his first two seasons with the Jets and remained a consistent presence on the field when healthy until this year. He was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2020, earning his third Pro Bowl appearance that season. However, injuries limited him to just 10 games over the past two years with Seattle. The Seahawks released Adams and fellow safety Quandre Diggs in March, despite the financial burden of nearly $20 million in dead cap money.

Diggs, who signed with Tennessee this offseason, has started all five games alongside Amani Hooker. He declined to comment on the situation with Adams but shared that he regularly communicates with his friend, saying, “All I could do is be there for my brother.”

The Titans currently have one of the NFL’s best defenses, leading the league in total yards allowed and pass defense. Despite Adams’ release, the team remains strong on the defensive side of the ball.
