Good News: Green Bay Packers Officially Welcome Another Top Experienced QB To Active Roster

The Green Bay Packers have promoted Sean Clifford from the practice squad to the active roster, according to a report by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. This move comes in light of starting quarterback Jordan Love being listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts due to a knee injury.

Clifford, who was previously on the practice squad, will now serve as the backup quarterback behind Malik Willis, a third-round draft pick from 2022. Willis is expected to start in place of Love for this game, with Clifford ready to step in if necessary.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic provided an update on Love’s injury status, stating that there is optimism that the Packers’ starting quarterback will return to the field in Week 4, when Green Bay faces the Minnesota Vikings. However, if Love remains sidelined, it’s likely that Clifford will again be elevated from the practice squad for Week 3, when the Packers take on the Tennessee Titans.

In the meantime, Clifford’s elevation to the active roster provides the Packers with added depth at quarterback as they navigate through the uncertainty surrounding Love’s injury. The promotion also gives Clifford a potential opportunity to showcase his abilities, though his role will primarily be as a backup unless unforeseen circumstances force him into the starting lineup.

With Love’s status for the upcoming games still in question, the Packers are taking precautions by ensuring they have multiple options at quarterback. If Clifford remains on the roster through these next few weeks, it will provide him with valuable experience and a chance to further familiarize himself with the team’s system. As Green Bay continues to monitor Love’s recovery, the upcoming games could offer opportunities for both Willis and Clifford to prove their capabilities in a live game setting.
