LSU football redshirt freshman offensive lineman Tyree Adams will be sidelined after undergoing surgery for what Coach Brian Kelly described as a “sports hernia” injury. Adams sustained the injury during pregame warmups before LSU’s game against Ole Miss last Saturday, Kelly revealed on Thursday.
Adams shared via social media on Wednesday that he had surgery to address the issue, and the Southeastern Conference’s availability report listed him as out for the upcoming games.
Coach Kelly expressed his surprise at the nature of the injury, saying, “In over 30 years, I’ve never seen anything like it.” He explained that Adams had been practicing with the second group, was physically fit, and had been lifting weights, only for the injury to occur during warmups. “It’s unfortunate,” Kelly added.
Adams, who was considered LSU’s sixth offensive lineman during preseason practices, had also started in the Tigers’ Week 2 victory over Nicholls State.
With Adams now unavailable, LSU will have to depend on several young players if any of their current starters become unavailable. Freshman Weston Davis, redshirt freshman Paul Mubenga, redshirt sophomore Bo Bordelon, and freshmen Coen Echols, Ethan Calloway, Ory Williams, and Khayree Lee are now in line to step up for the team.
This injury leaves the Tigers with limited depth on the offensive line as they continue their season.
