Renowned pastor and author Dr. Tony Evans has recently announced that he is stepping back from some of his ministry responsibilities. This decision marks a significant change in the leadership at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship and The Urban Alternative. Evans explained that he is doing this to focus on his personal well-being and to allow new leadership to emerge within the ministry.
In a statement, Evans acknowledged falling short of the high standards expected of spiritual leaders. He shared that while he had not committed a crime, he did not use sound judgment in his actions. As a result, he is stepping away from pastoral duties and entering a process of healing and restoration guided by the church elders.
Evans expressed gratitude for the support of his family and the church leadership during this time. The elders emphasized their role in holding leaders accountable and maintaining the church’s integrity, while also highlighting God’s mercy and grace in restoration.
Pastor Bobby Gibson and the elders will oversee interim leadership while decisions about the future are made. Despite this transition, Evans remains dedicated to his ministry work. He plans to continue preaching and writing, focusing on developing new leaders within the fellowship and The Urban Alternative. This decision is part of a larger strategic plan to ensure the continued growth of his ministries.
Tony Evans has been a key figure in Christian ministry for more than four decades. Since founding Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in 1976, the church has grown to over 10,000 members and expanded its reach through The Urban Alternative, which focuses on applying biblical principles to transform lives.
In recent years, Evans has become more vocal about the intersection of faith and politics. His latest book, *Kingdom Politics: Returning God to Government*, discusses the importance of Christians viewing government through a biblical lens. Evans has urged Christians to return to a faith-centered approach to political engagement.
Additionally, Evans is known for his strong support of Israel, often emphasizing the importance of understanding the country’s role in biblical prophecy. He frequently leads tours to Israel to deepen believers’ understanding of biblical events and strengthen their faith.
Though this transition marks a shift in Evans’ role, many in the Christian community have expressed gratitude for his decades of service and his continued commitment to ministry.
