The Houston Astros are set to hire Tony Perezchica as their new third-base coach, according to a report by the *Arizona Republic*. Perezchica will replace Gary Pettis, who was not retained by the Astros after 10 seasons with the team.
Perezchica previously served as the Arizona Diamondbacks’ third-base coach for eight seasons under manager Torey Lovullo.
In addition to his coaching role, he was also the team’s infield instructor. His time with the Diamondbacks spanned 14 years, where he held various positions within the organization before joining the coaching staff.
At 58 years old, Perezchica brings extensive experience to the Astros. He played in the major leagues for four seasons, appearing in 69 games with the San Francisco Giants (1988, 1990-91) and Cleveland Indians (1991-92). Over his career, he had a batting average of .228 with five RBIs in 101 at-bats.
Perezchica’s hiring marks a new chapter for the Astros’ coaching staff as they prepare for the upcoming season.
