LaNorris Sellers’ potential had South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer thrilled. Regretfully, Robby Ashford will start for the Gamecocks against the Akron Zips on Saturday due to an ankle injury sustained by the starting quarterback. Just before halftime in last week’s game against the LSU Tigers, Sellers exited and did not come back. This week, he was not really engaged in practice.
Disappointed with South Carolina’s 36-33 defeat at the hands of LSU, Ashford talked about his encounter with being compelled to play against the Tigers.
Ashford kept up his team’s defence through On3’s Grant Grubbs.
Many people are free to say anything they want, but they have never had to walk in my shoes or experience what I did. I don’t really care what they have to say since they’re still couch coaches,” Ashford remarked. “Those people are free to say whatever they want, but when it comes to what Coach Beamer and Coach Dowell Loggains want to run, I have complete faith and trust in them. I won’t sit here and debate about it, therefore. It is my responsibility to lead the attack and carry out orders.
This season, the Gamecocks have been fortunate to have an excellent defence. They rank 14th in PFF’s defence grade of 86.3, and 16th in coverage. One of the poorest teams in FBS, the Akron Zips, should be unable to score points thanks to this elite defence.
