The Detroit Pistons have bolstered their backcourt depth by signing guard Alondes Williams to a two-way contract, adding another promising young player to their roster ahead of the 2024-2025 NBA season. Alondes Williams, a former standout at Wake Forest, had a notable college career, especially during his senior year in 2021-2022, when he was named ACC Player of the Year. During that season, Williams averaged an impressive 18.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game, showcasing his versatility as both a scorer and a facilitator. His strong performance at Wake Forest made him a top prospect, but he went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft. However, Williams quickly earned a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets, giving him an opportunity to prove himself at the professional level.
Williams spent much of his rookie season in the G League with the Long Island Nets, where he displayed flashes of his potential. He averaged 13.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game during his time in the G League, demonstrating his ability to contribute across multiple areas of the game. His athleticism and versatility make him an intriguing prospect, particularly in a Pistons backcourt that features rising star Cade Cunningham and other young talents like Jaden Ivey.
For the Pistons, signing Williams represents a low-risk, high-reward move. Two-way contracts are designed to give teams flexibility with their rosters while allowing players to develop further.
