Good News: Just In Stan Bowman Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Experienced Superstar To Bolster Squad

Jasper Weatherby is getting another opportunity to prove himself in the NHL as he signed a professional tryout (PTO) agreement with the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, according to Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.

Weatherby spent the 2023-24 season playing in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Milwaukee Admirals, where he appeared in 66 games. During his time with the Admirals, the 26-year-old forward scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists, showcasing his offensive abilities. Despite his solid performance in the AHL, Weatherby has not played at the NHL level since the 2021-22 season, when he was with the San Jose Sharks.

In that 2021-22 campaign, Weatherby played in 50 regular-season games for the Sharks, managing to record five goals and a total of 11 points. Although he showed some promise in his rookie season, he has since been unable to secure a consistent spot in the NHL, spending his time developing in the AHL.

By signing a PTO with the Oilers, Weatherby is hoping to reignite his NHL career and earn a spot on Edmonton’s roster for the upcoming season. PTO agreements are often used as a way for teams to evaluate players during training camp without committing to a full contract. For Weatherby, this opportunity with the Oilers could be a chance to prove his worth and make an impression, either with Edmonton or another NHL team.

Weatherby is a versatile forward, capable of playing both center and wing, and he could potentially provide depth to Edmonton’s forward group if he impresses during training camp. At 26 years old, he is still relatively young and could bring value to a team looking for a physical, two-way player.

For now, Weatherby’s focus will be on making the most of his tryout with the Oilers. His performance in the AHL last season demonstrated his ability to contribute offensively, and he’ll need to carry that momentum into camp as he aims for a return to the NHL level.
