Breaking: Just in The Oilers set a verge to sign on a future of a newly acquired prospect with significant potential

One of the Edmonton Oilers’ latest prospects has been cleared to start the 2024-25 season. The team announced that winger Roby Jarventie has recovered from a knee injury, resulting in his removal from season-opening injured reserve and his assignment to AHL Bakersfield.

Jarventie, now 22, was originally selected 33rd overall by Ottawa in the second round of the 2020 draft. He spent most of his first three professional seasons in the AHL, and in limited action with Belleville last season, he posted 20 points over 22 games. This strong performance earned him a brief stint with the Senators, where he played in seven games, logging an assist and an average of 7:31 in ice time per game.

Despite his potential, Ottawa traded Jarventie and a 2025 fourth-round pick to Edmonton in July in exchange for prospects Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson. Notably, Bourgault was a first-round pick in 2021, and although his value has declined somewhat, Edmonton clearly sees upside in Jarventie.

This transaction also benefits the Oilers from a salary-cap perspective. Due to Jarventie’s time on an NHL roster last season, he was costing Edmonton a prorated cap hit based on his $894K salary, amounting to around $107K. With his move to Bakersfield, this figure is removed, providing Edmonton with nearly $1.15M in cap space, which places them around the league’s midpoint in available cap space, according to PuckPedia.
