Shane Zylstra has rejoined the Detroit Lions’ practice squad, according to Monday’s transaction log from the NFL. Zylstra served as the Lions’ third-string tight end, following Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright, during their significant 52-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 8.
Though Zylstra didn’t contribute to the offense directly—playing in 13 of the Lions’ 48 offensive snaps—he made an impact on special teams. Spending 20 snaps on special teams, Zylstra managed to record a tackle in punt coverage, showcasing his versatility and value outside the primary offensive lineup.
As a practice squad member, Zylstra is eligible for temporary elevation to the active roster under the NFL’s regulations. This past game marked one of these elevations, meaning the Lions can still elevate him once more before they would need to either sign him officially to the active roster or return him to the practice squad without further elevations.
