The Las Vegas Raiders, grappling with a struggling quarterback lineup, may look to resolve the issue through a trade before the NFL deadline. With a 2-6 record largely due to inconsistent quarterback performances, both Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew have rotated starts but failed to secure the position, tallying just eight touchdowns against ten interceptions and averaging 209.1 yards per game. Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report called the Raiders’ quarterback dilemma “ugly,” stating that neither O’Connell nor Minshew seems ready for a starting role and are better suited as backups.
Vinnie Iyer from The Sporting News proposed a potential solution: the Raiders could make a trade for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields. Iyer speculated that acquiring Fields could be part of a long-term plan, especially with the Raiders potentially targeting top quarterback prospects like Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 draft. Fields, who previously worked under Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy while with the Chicago Bears, could be an ideal bridge for the team’s future quarterback strategy.
According to Iyer, while the Steelers may prefer to retain Fields as a backup to Russell Wilson, a strong trade offer might persuade them to part ways. Fields started six games for the Steelers this season with a 4-2 record but has since returned to the bench in favor of Wilson.
