ESPN Report: Just In Following Elimination Heartbreak Indiana Fever Top Experienced Fan’s Favorite Superstar Decline New Contract Offer Announced Her Departure On X

The Indiana Fever had an impressive 2024 WNBA season, making their first postseason appearance in eight years with the arrival of rookie sensation Caitlin Clark. The team’s success extended beyond the court, as they shattered viewership and attendance records, positioning Clark as a potential new face of the league. However, with success comes some challenges, including negativity from fans. Several Fever players, including forward NaLyssa Smith, have been subjected to harsh comments from this new wave of followers.

On Thursday, Smith posted a season recap on X (formerly Twitter), reflecting on both the positive and negative aspects of the year. Her post took an unexpected turn when she made a comment that sparked rumors about her future with the Fever. Smith wrote, “Regardless of anything that happens in my future, I hope y’all continue to rock with the kid!!” This statement led many WNBA fans to speculate that she might be preparing to leave Indiana in the offseason.

Fans responded to her post with comments hinting at a potential departure. One fan encouraged her to find a better fit, while others expressed support for her wherever she ends up. Another fan commented on the team’s struggles, calling it a “toxic organization and fan base.”

Smith had a strong regular season, starting in 37 of the Fever’s 40 games and averaging 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. However, her role diminished in the postseason. In Game 2 against the Connecticut Sun, head coach Christie Sides opted to start backup forward Temi Fagbenle, leaving Smith to play just four minutes off the bench. This decision, combined with her cryptic post, has fueled speculation about her future with the team.

Smith, a former Baylor star, has one year remaining on her contract with the Fever. If she does leave Indiana, it could happen through a trade or the upcoming WNBA expansion draft, where she might land with the league’s newest team, the Golden State Valkyries.

While nothing is confirmed, Smith’s post has left many fans wondering if her time with the Fever is coming to an end. Her talent and potential will certainly make her a valuable player, whether she stays in Indiana or moves to a new team.
