To get there, though, the squad will have to make some tough decisions regarding its players and what is best for the group going forward. Many of these choices need to be made during training camp and the preseason. While many players are vying for spots on the squad, some players with considerable skill will be removed. The Canucks, for example, elected to place two defensemen on waivers today. Guillaume Brisebois and Jett Woo are those defensemen. Injury kept Brisebois out of the game the previous season. Woo, on the other hand, has spent the last few years living in Abbotsford and hasn’t accomplished much.
It is still unclear if these players will be able to clear waivers in the end. It seems like they will probably wind up returning to Abbotsford for the time being, but you never know. In any case, this must be a letdown, even though it should come as no surprise to these guys. Hopefully, they are able to get into a groove and maybe contribute in another way to the NHL. The San Jose Sharks would have first choice for the time being if they so desired.
