Done Deal: Longhorn Officially Announce The Signing Of Another Top Talented And Well Experienced Starting QB Star Players

Texas football hasn’t had their regular starting quarterback since the first several minutes of the second quarter of their home game against the UTSA Roadrunners in Week 3. A few weeks ago, during Texas’s victory over UTSA, redshirt junior quarterback Quinn Ewers had an abdominal strain injury in the first half of the game.

Regarding his injury status for this weekend’s SEC-mandated injury report for the team’s home opener versus the Mississippi State Bulldogs on September 28, Ewers’ status is still uncertain.

In the SEC opener against Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon, Texas will wait until September 27 to decide whether to play QB Austin Ewers. This was said by Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian during a Zoom press conference with the media on September 26.

Ewers has “improved every day” in practice this week while working his way back from the abdominal strain injury, per Sarkisian.

During his news conference on Thursday, Sarkisian also stated that both true freshman Trey Owens and redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning had looked well during practice this week. Last weekend, in his first collegiate start at quarterback, Manning guided the Longhorns to victory in a commanding 51-3 victory at home against the UL-Monroe Warhawks. Against UTSA, Manning also finished 9 of 12 completion attempts for more over 200 yards and five touchdowns. He entered the game when Ewers sustained the injury in the first half of Week 3. Ewers has completed 58 of 79 pass attempts (73.4 completion percentage) for 691 pass yards, eight throwing touchdowns, and two interceptions in his three starts this season.

We will continue to follow for updates to Ewers’ injury status in the last 48 hours or so before kickoff against Mississippi State this weekend, with the starting QB decision coming up tomorrow for Sarkisian.
