Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has been named a top-10 finalist for the prestigious 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, as announced by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation. This award is given to the top senior or upperclassman quarterback who is set to graduate with their class, recognizing excellence both on and off the field.
Ewers, a native of Southlake, Texas, is a third-year starter who has made a significant impact on the Longhorns program. Over 28 career starts, he has led Texas to 21 wins, amassing 7,045 passing yards and 51 touchdown passes—both of which place him sixth in Texas’ all-time records. Coming into the 2024 season, he was named to preseason watch lists for major awards like the Davey O’Brien Award, Walter Camp Award, Maxwell Award, Manning Award, and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. Ewers was also recognized as a preseason second-team All-SEC selection by both media and coaches.
Throughout the 2024 season, Ewers has earned multiple weekly accolades for his performances. Among these are the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, Manning Award Star of the Week, Reese’s Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week, Davey O’Brien Great 8 honoree, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, and Maxwell Award Player of the Week, all following standout games in early September.
Ewers’ college journey began at Ohio State, where he enrolled as a true freshman after reclassifying and graduating high school a year early. This experience allowed him to transition quickly to the collegiate level, and he later transferred to Texas, where he has established himself as a leader on and off the field.
The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award finalists represent some of the nation’s best quarterbacks, and Ewers’ nomination reflects his hard work, talent, and leadership. With a strong season and impressive statistics, he stands as a leading figure for the Longhorns and a prominent candidate for this honor, cementing his place among college football’s elite quarterbacks.
