The Las Vegas Raiders have decided to part ways with three key offensive coaches—offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello, and offensive line coach James Cregg—following their Week 9 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news, which comes as the Raiders head into their bye week.
This decision doesn’t come as a shock, as The Athletic’s Vic Tafur had previously suggested Getsy could be dismissed after the Bengals game.
Although Getsy joined the Raiders only this offseason, Las Vegas’ offense has struggled, ranking 26th in points per game. In Sunday’s game, the Raiders managed just 17 offensive points, with an additional seven points coming from a Jack Jones interception return, and one of their two touchdowns occurring in garbage time.
The Raiders’ offensive struggles have extended beyond just play-calling. Quarterback Gardner Minshew was benched late in the game in favor of Desmond Ridder, and the offensive line has faced challenges throughout the season. With the season slipping away, head coach Antonio Pierce decided it was time for a major shake-up.
At this time, it’s unclear who will take over as the Raiders’ offensive coordinator for the remaining eight games. Passing game coordinator Scott Turner is a likely candidate due to his experience as the former offensive play-caller for the Washington Commanders from 2020 to 2022.
This change marks a significant shift for the Raiders as they aim to salvage their season during the bye week and regain momentum for the remaining games.
