Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott provided updates on the team’s injuries leading up to Week 10 against the Indianapolis Colts. Speaking with the media, he discussed the status of multiple players, including wide receivers Keon Coleman and Amari Cooper, defensive end Dawuane Smoot, and cornerback Christian Benford.
During Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, Smoot suffered a wrist injury that will require surgery. As a result, he’ll be placed on injured reserve and miss at least four games. McDermott expressed hope that Smoot could return later this season but won’t have a clearer timeline until after surgery. “With IR and surgeries, it’s often unclear until doctors fully assess the injury,” McDermott noted.
Coleman also sustained a wrist or arm injury near the game’s end and remains under evaluation. McDermott stated that the team is still determining the injury’s extent and expects more information as the week progresses, saying, “We’re holding out hope, but we’ll see how things go.”
Both Cooper and Benford were sidelined for the Dolphins game due to wrist injuries and are considered day-to-day as they prepare for Week 10 practices. They had participated in limited practice sessions last week, and McDermott said, “We’ll see how they do this week and proceed from there.”
Additionally, fullback Reggie Gilliam, who missed the game with a hip injury, is also listed as day-to-day.
As the NFL Trade Deadline approaches, McDermott mentioned that roster adjustments would be up to general manager Brandon Beane, who would inform him of any changes. “I’m focused on what we need to improve from yesterday’s game, and Brandon will update me if needed,” McDermott said.
