Good News: Top Experienced Former World Series Winner Free Agent Name Boston Red Sox As His Preferred Destination In Free Agency

The 2024 MLB free agent market is packed with elite starting pitchers, and Corbin Burnes is expected to be the standout ace. Several top pitchers, including Blake Snell and Max Fried, are available, but Burnes is widely considered the best option this offseason. The four-time All-Star had an impressive season with the Orioles, making 32 starts and posting a 2.92 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP across 194 1/3 innings. According to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel, Burnes could secure a deal over $200 million, possibly reaching the $225 million range.

Both the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets are considered ideal landing spots for Burnes and are likely to be active bidders. McDaniel notes that Burnes, represented by renowned agent Scott Boras, could even approach the value of Stephen Strasburg’s $245 million contract, signed before the 2020 season.

Teams signing Burnes are likely banking on his performance in the first half of the contract to drive deep playoff runs, with hopes that he maintains good health later in the deal.

The Red Sox are particularly in need of a leading starter to strengthen their rotation, where Burnes could slot in ahead of Tanner Houck. Although Boston’s lineup is solid, adding an ace would address a major need for a playoff push. Meanwhile, the Mets, under the ownership of Steve Cohen, are expected to be very active in pursuing top-tier free agents, including Burnes, as they aim to build a competitive roster.

With both Boston and New York highly interested, Burnes’ contract is anticipated to break the $200 million mark, potentially reaching one of the highest contracts for a pitcher this winter. The competition between these teams could make Burnes one of the highest-paid players in the upcoming free agency period.
