Drafted 63rd overall by the Panthers in the 2023 NHL Draft, Sawchyn’s contract was finalized on November 4, setting the 19-year-old up for a promising start in professional hockey.
As a Peace Country native, Sawchyn has shown strong leadership and skill in the WHL. He earned the role of Assistant Captain for the Oil Kings in the 2024-25 season, contributing eight goals and 12 assists in just 12 games as of this season. His efforts with the Oil Kings also helped the team secure a WHL Championship title, underscoring his impact on the ice.
Known for his tenacious playing style, Sawchyn has been praised by Elite Prospects for his straightforward, aggressive approach. His scouting report highlights his determination to win puck battles and his willingness to push inside, often taking risks to gain an advantage for his team.
