GOOD NEWS: The Giants Confirms Return Of Another Highly Experience Star

SAN FRANCISCO — July 30, 2025 — The San Francisco Giants received encouraging updates on two key left-handed arms in their pitching corps, as they continue to make steady progress in their respective recoveries from injuries.

Miller, the only lefty in the Giants’ bullpen for much of the first half, landed on the 15-day injured list earlier this month with a left elbow sprain. While the team initially feared a more serious UCL issue, recent evaluations have offered more optimism. Manager Bob Melvin told reporters before Tuesday’s game that Miller has resumed light throwing and is “trending in the right direction.”

“We’re being cautious, but there haven’t been any setbacks,” Melvin said. “The goal is to slowly ramp him up and see how he responds to more intensity in his work.”

Miller, 26, has been one of the Giants’ most reliable relief options this season, sporting a 3.11 ERA over 38 appearances. His absence has left the bullpen short on left-handed options, placing extra pressure on righties in late-game situations.

Meanwhile, Roupp — who made his MLB debut earlier this season before hitting the IL with an elbow strain of his own — is also advancing in his recovery. The 25-year-old has begun throwing off flat ground and could begin a rehab assignment in the coming weeks if his elbow continues to respond well.

The former third-round pick had shown promise in a swingman role, logging 21.2 innings with a 3.74 ERA before being sidelined in June.

The Giants, currently locked in a tight NL Wild Card race, are hopeful both pitchers can return before the end of August. Their healthy presence would provide a much-needed boost to a pitching staff that’s battled inconsistency and depth issues throughout the summer.

Melvin noted that while the front office remains active ahead of the July 31 trade deadline, getting internal reinforcements like Miller and Roupp back is “just as important as any move we might make.”

The team is expected to provide another update on both pitchers by early next week.
