BREAKING NEWS: The Reds Gets Another Stunning News Involving Hunter Greene

CINCINNATI — As he continues recovering from a right groin strain, Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene made a rehab start for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. His outing was a mixed bag, highlighted by a visit from the trainer during the game.

Greene threw 50 pitches across 2 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits, including two solo home runs. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out six in Louisville’s 5-2 loss to Omaha.

In the third inning, with one out, play was briefly halted when Louisville manager Pat Kelly and a trainer visited Greene on the mound. Despite the interruption, Greene remained in the game without throwing a warm-up pitch, but he surrendered a line drive off the left-field wall and was then removed from the game.

Greene was capped at 55 pitches for the outing, and the trainer’s mound visit was unrelated to his groin injury.

According to Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall, Greene experienced cramping during the start, which was resolved afterward through food and hydration.

Tuesday marked Greene’s second rehab appearance—and his first with Triple-A Louisville—after tossing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League last Wednesday. He’s slated to make another start against Omaha on Sunday.

Since May 23, Greene has made just three starts after being sidelined a second time due to recurring groin strain issues. His last big-league appearance came on June 3 against the Brewers.

He was nearly ready to begin a rehab assignment in early July but paused the process after experiencing symptoms again. Fortunately, an MRI revealed no new strain, and the Reds had him continue his throwing program at their facility in Goodyear, Arizona.

As the Reds aim for a playoff push, they’re counting on Greene to contribute in the final stretch. In 11 starts this season, he holds a 4-3 record with a 2.72 ERA.
