Fulham, a Premier League team, is targeting Southampton’s rising star Carlos Alcaraz in the upcoming January transfer window. However, Fulham will need to prepare a substantial sum to secure his services.
Alcaraz, who arrived at St. Mary’s Stadium in January for a £12 million transfer fee from Racing Club in Argentina, is subject to a 15 percent sell-on fee to his former club if he’s transferred in the future. Despite joining Southampton during a challenging period that led to their relegation, Alcaraz stood out as a standout player, scoring four goals in 18 Premier League appearances.
In the current season, the 20-year-old has played in 12 matches across all competitions for Southampton, with 10 of them in the Championship. Reports suggest that Newcastle United and other clubs have expressed interest in him. Additionally, Benfica from the Portuguese league and RB Leipzig from the Bundesliga have shown interest in acquiring the Argentinian central midfielder. Southampton has set an asking price of £30 million for the young talent, nearly three times what they paid for him less than a year ago.
Despite these reports, the club recently announced that Alcaraz has signed a new five-year contract, even though he initially agreed to a four-and-a-half-year deal when he joined in January.
Nevertheless, the Evening Standard claims that Fulham, a Premier League side, is considering a move for Alcaraz when the winter transfer window opens. Marco Silva is looking to bolster his midfield options.
Southampton paid £30 million for Alcaraz before he signed a new contract, and this figure may have escalated since then.
Alcaraz signing the contract indicates that he is content at Southampton, although this could change if the club fails to regain promotion to the Premier League. Fulham will be waiting in that case.
