In an interview with Express and Star, the Wolves manager clarified that he holds “no grievances against Joe Hodge at all.” He acknowledged that the midfielder has been dealing with injury problems. The manager also emphasized that Hodge is still part of his plans, but he empathizes with the frustration that can arise when a player isn’t getting as much playing time as they desire. He pointed out that it’s a common issue for around 14 players every week.
Subsequently, the manager issued a clear message to Hodge, presenting him with a choice. He urged Hodge to either put in the hard work and seize his opportunity or consider other options. The manager believes that this is a standard situation in football, and he has no issues with Joe Hodge, leaving the decision in the hands of the player.
A January loan is probably the best decision
Hodge deserves a chance, but with all the midfielders ahead of him in the hierarchy, it is difficult to see him receiving one.
The two obvious starters are Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes, but Tommy Doyle has also shown himself to be a strong candidate.
Another player that is ranked higher than Hodge is Boubacar Traore, which means the Ireland under-21 international is probably in fifth place.
Because he needs playing time to improve, we believe a January loan to a Championship team should be considered.
