‘I was impressed’: Diego Simeone explains what he really likes about Celtic

Atletico Madrid’s manager, Diego Simeone, expressed his admiration for Celtic’s performance during their thrilling 2-2 draw in the Champions League at Parkhead. Simeone acknowledged Celtic’s “speed and dynamism” and their impressive display during the match.

In the game, Alvaro Morata scored a brilliant goal from a gorgeous Marcos Llorente cross shortly after half-time, reminiscent of their city rivals, Real Madrid. During the first 45 minutes in Glasgow, Celtic dominated the game and outplayed Atletico, displaying world-class quality in their play.

Celtic’s strong performance against Atletico was a major step forward for the club, even though they had nothing to show for their excellent display against Real Madrid in the past. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, with Morata’s goal canceling out goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and Luis Palma.

Simeone commented on the match, stating that he expected Celtic to start the game well and that Atletico struggled to contain them, resulting in Celtic’s early goal. He emphasized the importance of the second half, where Atletico improved and the substitutes had a significant impact.

Celtic took the lead early in the game, with Kyogo Furuhashi scoring after a sublime one-two with Matt O’Riley.

While this point was Celtic’s first in the group stage of the Champions League, it may be challenging for them to reach the knockout stage. However, a Europa League spot is still within their reach. Simeone acknowledged Celtic’s impressive performance, particularly their speed, dynamism, and ability to create chances during the match.
