76ers vs. Bucks: Starting Lineup, Rotation

76ers vs. Bucks: Predicting Sixers’ Starting Lineup and Rotation

As the preseason becomes a distant memory, the Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up for the start of the 2023-2024 NBA season, kicking off with a matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks. Following some final roster adjustments in recent days, the Sixers have solidified their squad for the upcoming basketball season.

**Projected Starting Lineup:**

Throughout the 2023 preseason, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse hinted at having six potential starters. While he didn’t reveal names, some players are clear choices, and the absence of a key member opens the door for another seasoned player.

The question mark over Tyrese Maxey: Is the Sixers' future in his hands? | Marca

– Point Guard (PG): Tyrese Maxey
– Shooting Guard (SG): De’Anthony Melton
– Small Forward (SF): Tobias Harris
– Power Forward (PF): PJ Tucker
– Center (C): Joel Embiid

*The Missing Piece:*

James Harden didn’t accompany the team to Milwaukee due to personal reasons. Although he joined the 76ers’ practice session after some time away, Harden was advised to stay in Camden, New Jersey, to ramp up his conditioning for a later debut.

**Reserves in the Rotation:**

For the opening game of an 82-game season, a ten-man rotation might be excessive, but the Sixers are not likely to operate as if it’s a playoff matchup in Milwaukee. The crucial three in this lineup could be Paul Reed, Kelly Oubre, and Patrick Beverley. Paul Reed appears to be the top option to back up Joel Embiid, as Nurse has shown a preference for Reed during the offseason. Kelly Oubre and Patrick Beverley bring veteran experience and tenacity to the court. Oubre had a solid preseason, demonstrating his ability to excel in a reduced role following his career year in Charlotte. Beverley is the strongest ball-handler among the reserve players.

Danny Green and Jaden Springer might split minutes early on. Although Green was initially considered a depth signing at best, he proved he still has something left in the tank during the preseason.

**Waiting in the Wings:**

Mo Bamba has been a somewhat disappointing addition for the Sixers so far this season. His playing time decreased significantly even before the four-game preseason concluded. Wings Danuel House and Furkan Korkmaz are prepared to step up if needed. Both players entered the preseason with something to prove, but setbacks hindered their chances of showcasing their value to the new coaching staff. Filip Petrusev improved his stock during the preseason, but it may not be enough to earn him a chance to make his official NBA debut on Thursday night. With a significant investment in Paul Reed, the Sixers are inclined to expand his role, leaving Petrusev waiting for his opportunity.

**Back in Philly:**

James Harden and two-way players Terquavion Smith, Ricky Council, and Javonte Smart are not expected to receive minutes in Thursday’s opener. Instead, they are better off utilizing their time at the practice facility to further develop their skills. James Harden was advised by the Sixers not to travel with the team, as he was “not with the team” on Philadelphia’s injury report following his ten-day absence.
