Chelsea is reportedly considering a move for Miles Leaburn, a 19-year-old striker from Charlton Athletic, in the upcoming January transfer window. Leaburn, who stands at an impressive 6ft 6in, has delivered seven goal contributions in 10 matches this season, spanning all competitions for the League One club. His outstanding performance at such a young age has garnered the attention of several top clubs, and Chelsea may find themselves in a competition with Brentford, another Premier League side, if they intend to secure the young Englishman’s services. This isn’t the first time Leaburn has been linked with a potential transfer, as Aston Villa was reportedly interested in him towards the end of the previous season. During the summer, Charlton turned down a bid exceeding 拢3 million from an unnamed Bundesliga club.
What adds intrigue to this situation is that Leaburn is not a complete stranger to Chelsea, having been a part of their academy before making the move to Charlton four years ago. Chelsea’s interest in Leaburn coincides with co-owner Todd Boehly granting head coach Mauricio Pochettino more influence in the transfer market this week. Pochettino is reportedly keen on acquiring a new striker, with Ivan Toney appearing as the primary target, amid doubts about Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja.
It’s worth noting that Chelsea has a history of recruiting talent from League One clubs, having signed Mason Burstow from Charlton in 2022. Currently, Charlton is positioned 13th in the third tier of English football after their first 13 games of the season, with five wins, five losses, and three draws.
