Revealed: Main Reason Why Falcons Will Bench Ridder vs. Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings will visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, and the quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons won’t be a recognizable figure. At his news conference on Wednesday, Falcons coach Arthur Smith declared that Taylor Heinicke will start against Minnesota, moving Desmond Ridder to the bench. After being placed into concussion protocol, Ridder, who started the first eight games of the season, did not play in the second half of the team’s 28-23 loss to the Tennessee Titans last week. Roughly half of the way through the season, Ridder has completed 65.4% of his throws en route to 1,701 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions. With twelve giveaways, he leads the NFL at the moment

With twelve giveaways, he leads the NFL at the moment.

Heinicke came in to relieve Ridder against Tennessee, and he went 12 of 21 throws for 175 yards and a touchdown.

The Falcons led by Ridder managed just three points and 89 yards of offense in the first half. With Heinicke at the center, Atlanta scored 20 points and amassed 253 yards of total offense in the second half. Following the contest, Smith stated that he still believes Ridder should start at first base and mentioned that Heinicke is in Atlanta “to be able to come in as a backup and give us a shot.”
