Jurgen Klopp couldn’t hide his instant reaction to discovering Man Utd’s latest thrashing

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his surprise upon learning that Newcastle had eliminated Manchester United from the Carabao Cup’s last-16 round. This shocking result saw Eddie Howe’s team secure a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford, with goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall, and Joe Willock in front of over 7,000 traveling fans. Manchester United faced criticism from their supporters as they left the pitch without scoring for the second consecutive time.

In contrast, Liverpool advanced to the quarter-finals by narrowly defeating Bournemouth, with goals from Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez. During Klopp’s post-match press conference, he was informed of Newcastle’s win over Manchester United, to which he reacted with a bewildered expression, exclaiming, “ooooo okay” and clenching his teeth together. Manchester United’s challenging start to the season continued, with eight losses in all competitions, five of which occurred in the Premier League.

Regarding Liverpool’s performance, Klopp was satisfied, stating, “We should have scored more in the first half when the wind was with us.” He acknowledged that the weather conditions were difficult and praised his team’s effort. He mentioned their struggle to play from the back due to the opposition’s pressure but emphasized the importance of their victory.

As for Bournemouth’s manager, Andoni Iraola, he commended his team’s performance, saying, “We cannot ask for much more from the players; I think we played really well.” He noted the impact of the wind on the game and recognized the challenges both teams faced due to the weather conditions. Despite their loss, Iraola appreciated his team’s efforts in the cup competition.
