Tony Mowbray, the manager of Sunderland, has provided updates on Eliezer Mayenda, Adil Aouchiche, and Aji Alese’s potential return.
Eliezer Mayenda and Adil Aouchiche will accompany the club to Swansea City when Tony Mowbray’s injury list starts to clear, the manager has stated.
Although Chris Rigg is leaving for the U17 World Cup in Indonesia, it is unclear if either will be included in the matchday squad for Saturday’s match.
Rigg, who has been a consistent bench warmer this season, may miss as many as four games based on how England performs over the next two weeks.
Mayenda, who is 18 years old, has recovered totally from a hamstring injury. Mowbray had intended to start the young striker on his bench last week, but he decided not to take a chance on the player.
Although Aji Alese isn’t quite ready to rejoin the team, Mowbray thinks he’s getting close to going back to full training.Mowbray declared, “I don’t think [anyone will be back].”
Eliezer Mayenda has been training with us, but it’s clear that he has only played in one ninety-minute game—a bounce match versus Hibs.
“We have a few players who have traveled to Southampton to participate in the U21s match today. However, Eliezer will be joining us on our trip to Swansea due to concerns about his hamstring. We believe it’s better for him to be with our group to foster better integration.
As for the squad, it’s expected to remain largely unchanged from its recent composition.
Adil has returned to training, and he was on the verge of starting in the game before his injury. He will continue his training regimen and will accompany us on the trip.
Aji has been training on the field daily, and it won’t be long before he joins the main group. We anticipate that by the next international break, he’ll be fully back in training and competing for a spot, with some U21 involvement during that period. He’s getting close.
However, Jay Matete, Elliot Embleton, and Corry Evans are still dealing with long-term injuries.”
