Alan Shearer has commended Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina for his performance against Aston Villa. The Reds secured a 2-0 victory on Sunday, and Aina scored his first goal for Forest.
This win was a significant achievement for Forest. They took an early one-goal lead and extended their advantage shortly after half-time when Orel Mangala scored. Aina has proven to be a valuable addition to the Forest squad this season. He joined the club as a free agent after departing Torino at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
Shearer raves about Aina after Forest performance
It’s always gratifying to see Nottingham Forest receive acknowledgment following a strong performance, and Ola Aina has earned a spot in the Premier League Team of the Week. Alan Shearer was particularly impressed with the Nigeria international and praised his performance, stating, “He showed excellent technique to score from that range against Emiliano Martinez, and he also defended well to maintain a clean sheet.”
Aina has been in excellent form for Forest when he has been able to stay fit this season. He has started in seven games for the Reds and made a substitute appearance in another as he continues to adapt to his new club.
Defender proves that Forest can be shrewd in the market
Nottingham Forest has faced some ridicule from certain supporters regarding their transfer policy in recent seasons, with money being squandered on certain players. However, the acquisition of Ola Aina demonstrates that the club can be shrewd in their dealings.
It’s worth noting that Aina was also a target for Leeds when Forest pursued him. Initially, a move to the Championship might have seemed more likely, but Forest didn’t want to miss out on the 27-year-old, especially on a free transfer.
The results have been remarkable, and Aina appears to be a player for whom Forest would typically have spent millions. He displayed remarkable work ethic against Villa on Sunday, and there is hope for even more to come from him in the future.
