£40m for Bruno Guimaraes After events involving Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, a Newcastle United player could face a second ban.
The Brazilian midfielder will miss the trip to Bournemouth after receiving his fifth Premier League booking of the year during Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal.
However, Guimaraes is also just one booking away from a European suspension after receiving yellow cards during the Champions League games at St. James’ Park against Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle’s last group stage match against AC Milan next month will be missed by the 25-year-old if he receives a third yellow card against PSG later this month. Prior to the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal, players who receive three bookings will be suspended for one match.
So far this season, Guimaraes has started all four of Newcastle’s Champions League games. The Magpies’ recent home and away losses to Dortmund have left them bottom of Group F.
Eddie Howe’s team must defeat PSG the following game in order to stay in the competition. A victory would put them in a realistic position to go to the last group stage encounter against AC Milan at home, while a draw in Paris would mean they would have to rely on other outcomes as they went into the last group stage matchday.
