Taylor Heinicke Reacts to Atlanta Falcons Receiver Returning to Practice

The Atlanta Falcons are poised for an improvement in their passing game with the return of receiver Drake London. Quarterback Taylor Heinicke expressed his admiration for London. The Falcons’ offense has faced challenges this season, including a quarterback change, concerns about resource management, and several injuries.

On a positive note, top receiver Drake London resumed practice after recovering from a groin injury that kept him out of Week 9’s challenging loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Head coach Arthur Smith mentioned that London is “trending in the right direction.” The Falcons, currently at 4-5, aim to elevate their offensive performance after facing setbacks in the form of two consecutive losses and five losses in the last seven games.

Drake London participated in  practice on a limited basis, prompting quarterback Taylor Heinicke to express his enthusiasm about having the talented receiver back. Heinicke praised London as a great player and receiver, highlighting his friendly dynamics with quarterbacks. London’s size adds a new dimension to Heinicke’s targets, contrasting with smaller, speedy receivers like Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson in Heinicke’s past experiences.

If London is cleared to play, it will mark Heinicke’s first start with him by his side. In their previous game together in Week 8, only 21 of London’s 55 yards came from Heinicke, who completed one of two passes thrown to him. Heinicke’s subsequent performances included 175 yards and a touchdown in Week 8 and 268 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the following week.

With additional time to build chemistry, Heinicke aims to strengthen his connection with London, hoping to enhance Atlanta’s downfield and red-zone capabilities. Heinicke emphasized London’s ability to turn imperfect throws into successful plays, expressing his joy at having him back on the field.

As the Falcons gear up to face the Arizona Cardinals, whose quarterback Kyler Murray is potentially returning, Heinicke and London aim to elevate the team’s offense. Given the need for an improved performance, particularly against a resurgent Cardinals team, having a healthy and impactful London is crucial for Atlanta’s playoff aspirations.
