Newcastle had 11 players ruled out of their previous Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth before suffering a hamstring injury during the game. Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, and Alexander Isak are other wide alternatives for The Magpies that are now unavailable.

Minteh made his move to The Magpies from Danish side OB in the summer for a reported £7 million, but was swiftly loaned out to Feyenoord for the 2023-24 season.

Despite being just 19 years old, Minteh has shown promise with three goals and one assist in 12 appearances for the Dutch champions. However, a hamstring injury has sidelined him for the last five matches, prompting his return to Newcastle for further assessment.

With an option to recall Minteh from his loan in January, head coach Eddie Howe addressed the possibility of activating this clause. Howe explained, “We’ll look at our players that are out on loan, with a view to whether they could potentially strengthen us. If it’s good for their career as well, then we’ll certainly look at what we can do.”

Regarding Minteh’s current injury situation, Howe stated, “He’s done very well, although unfortunately he’s injured at the moment. He’s come back for an assessment on that injury because we need to check and see how he is. We need to work out how serious the injury is and when he’ll be back, and then we’ll make a decision on him, like we would with all our loan players.”

While acknowledging Minteh’s productive loan spell in the Eredivisie, Howe also highlighted the challenges of transitioning to the Premier League, emphasizing the need for careful consideration before making any decisions about the young player’s future with Newcastle.

“He has talent, but the Premier League is not like any other league in Europe.””That doesn’t mean players can’t come in and out of the Premier League.” He’s someone we admire, and he certainly has the athletic characteristics we require.”
