Champions League winger visits Newcastle United & will join club in 2024 as contract clause revealed

Due to an injury situation, Newcastle United may be inclined to bring up Yankuba Minteh from his loan at Feyenoord in January.

Before losing winger Miguel Almiron to a hamstring injury during their previous Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth, Newcastle had eleven players ruled out. The Magpies currently do not have access to wide options like Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak, or Harvey Barnes.

Minteh paid a reputed £7 million to join The Magpies from Danish team OB in the summer, however he was promptly loaned to Feyenoord for the 2023–24 campaign.

With 12 appearances for the Dutch champions, the 19-year-old has three goals and one assist. However, a hamstring injury has kept him out of action for the past five games.

Minteh has been to Newcastle for additional evaluation due to the injury. And head coach Eddie Howe was questioned about the temptation to use the provision because The Magpies have the option to call up the player from his loan in January.

Howe answered, “We’ll examine our players who are on loan to see whether they may potentially strengthen us. If it benefits their career as well, we’ll definitely consider our options.

“Despite his terrible injury at the time, [Minteh] has performed quite well. He returned for an evaluation regarding that injury because we needed to make sure he was doing well.

As with all of our loan players, we must determine the extent of the injury and when he will return before making a judgment about him.

Although Minteh’s efforts in the Eredivisie this season have drawn attention, Howe was quick to point out that a significant improvement is needed to have an impact in the Premier League.
Howe continued, “I believe that his loan spell has been productive.” “He has contributed to a winning team and scored goals.

“He has potential, no doubt about it, but the Premier League is unlike any other league in Europe.

“Players are still able to enter and exit the Premier League despite this. We like him, and he definitely possesses the necessary athletic profile.”
