**Braves Engage in Significant Six-Player Deal, Acquiring Aaron Bummer from White Sox**

In return, they acquired left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer from the White Sox.
Despite Aaron Bummer’s challenging 2023 season with the White Sox, where he struggled with a concerning 6.79 ERA in 58.1 innings across 61 games, the Braves see potential for a resurgence. Examining Bummer’s underlying metrics, there are indications of an elite late-game asset. According to Fangraphs, Bummer boasted a 3.53 expected ERA and a 3.58 FIP (fielding-independent pitching), reflecting factors within a pitcher’s control, such as strikeout rate, groundball rate, and contact suppression. Notably, Bummer maintained a robust 29.2 percent strikeout rate, averaging 12.03 strikeouts per nine innings.
While Bummer faced challenges, including a decline in left-on-base rate and a reduction in groundball rate, the Braves are optimistic about his potential. With potential adjustments to his pitching mechanics and an improved defensive environment, the Braves anticipate a rebound season, particularly if Bummer can address his elevated walk rate from the previous season with the White Sox.
The acquisition of Aaron Bummer offers a buy-low opportunity for the Braves, given his contractual terms. With a remaining commitment of $20.25 million over the next three years, the Braves hold club options for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, minimizing risks.
