Breaking news: Seahawks confirmed the signing of another super star

The Seattle Seahawks have officially signed tackle Jason Peters to the 53-man roster, confirming his potential signing reported by his agency on Friday. This move positions Peters to play against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 11. In a corresponding transaction, the Seahawks waived third-year tackle/guard Jake Curhan in an offensive line shuffle. The team also elevated undrafted rookie safety Ty Okada from the practice squad to contribute as a special teams reinforcement in his NFL regular season debut.

Peters joined the Seahawks as a free agent after injuries to starters Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas in the season opener against the Rams. Making his team debut in Week 8 against the Browns, Peters rotated in behind starter Stone Forsythe at right tackle. Despite starting on the practice squad, he showcased a standout performance in Week 10 against the Commanders, allowing only one pressure on 34 pass protection reps and excelling in the run game. With Peters now fully in game shape, there is potential for him to assume the starting role until Lucas returns in the coming weeks.

While Forsythe may still start against the Rams, Peters logged the majority of reps in Week 10, indicating a potential shift in the starting lineup. Lucas, who has been on injured reserve since Week 1, practiced in a limited capacity this week but won’t be ready to return for the game in Los Angeles, according to coach Pete Carroll.

In a surprising move, Jake Curhan, who started several games earlier in the season, has been waived. If unclaimed by another team, the Seahawks may aim to re-sign him to the practice squad, filling the spot left vacant by Peters’ promotion. Despite Curhan’s starting experience and versatility, the Seahawks opted to retain undrafted rookie tackles McClendon Curtis and Raiqwon O’Neal on the active roster, risking the veteran’s potential loss on the waiver wire.

Undrafted rookie safety Ty Okada, who showcased promise during preseason play, has been promoted from the practice squad. Okada, a standout at Montana State in the FCS, contributed six combined tackles, a tackle for loss, and a special teams tackle during exhibitions. His impressive pro day performance led to a priority free agent signing by the Seahawks after the 2023 NFL Draft.
