Gary Lineker says Mauricio Pochettino has done something he’s ‘never seen’ from him before at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was furious after his team’s Saturday defeat at Newcastle United.

The Blues were crushed 4-1 away at Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday, deflating the optimism that existed before the international break. The manager’s post-match comments made it plain that he was dissatisfied with the team’s performance.

After the Newcastle defeat, Pochettino told BBC Sport, “We talk about being a young team and having to learn, but I think these types of games make me very, very, very, very angry because it’s about showing your personality and character.” Okay, we’re a young team, but we can’t pass up this opportunity to shine.”

Gary Lineker has never seen Pochettino angrier than after Chelsea’s game at Newcastle.

Lineker noted on The Rest Is Football podcast, “I have never seen Poch quite so cross.” One of his remarks was that he was very, very, very, very – I believe there were five verys – before uttering the word angry. We were upset because we didn’t compete, and other such things. He wasn’t a pleased man after the game, which I understand because they weren’t really at it.”

Mauricio Pochettino frustration is vindicated

Chelsea’s manager was correct, in our opinion, to let go a little after the humiliation at St James’ Park. This team makes you want to tear out your hair since they can go from terrific to horrible in a matter of seconds, with inconsistency explaining why they’re currently 10th in the league table.

TEAMtalk reported this week that Pochettino will be ‘under growing pressure’ if Chelsea fails to qualify for the Champions League. With four wins in 13 top-flight games so far this season, finishing in any type of European berth appears to be a tall order.
